gearbow question

Post by kombikulture »

hi all, i have just done a 1900 t/d aaz engine swop in my 1990 panel van , it was a 1700 deisel (non turbo) before the conversion with a 5-speed box .
now i find it seems to run out of gears and the 5th gear seems like a 4th, can anyone tell me is there a gearbox swop which will lower my gearing as it sounds like it about to jump out of the van at 70 mph.
or is there any gears that will transfere into my box to aid the problem.
many thanks
chopper.

A petrol 4 or 5 speed will help, or a rebuild with a petrol diff (sorry I don't know my 2WD diffs like I know the Syncro ones!)

Gearbox Problem

Post by Andyvandy »

Hi,

I've just bought a Westy which was a 1600 Diesel but has been ftted with a 1.9 TD. Like yours it runs out of gears. It may not be so bad here in Scotland , particularly when I take it to the highlands!

I am considering a geabox swap though so would be interested as well as to what to do
