New Coil!

Does anyone know if this coil - http://www.justkampers.com/shop/type_25 ... -coil.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

will be the correct one for my Vega 1.9 DG Petrol motor, it states it is for electriconic ignition only and Im not 100% sure mine is - (probably a realy newbie question!)

I would say no.....Judging by your van description in your details....
Your van is a 1985 yes.....
If I were you I would visit my local motor factors. I purchased a new coil for my van last week, and mine has an electronic ignition. The cost was £25 all in for a genuine Intermotor coil......What a difference a difference it has made to the van.

I would say your van has a Electronic ignition....but I would say that some of the Pro`s will be here shortly as I am no expert on DG engines...Mine is a CU Aircooled you see

My '86 1,9 DG just had good old fashioned points in the dizzy etc

Treat JK descriptions with suspicion, as their fitting lists are completely to pot...since when did a T25 diesel have a coil?????? Mark

You need to find out if the coil on your van has a green, or grey Bosch label and order the corresponding item.
3 different coils on a T3.

Aircooled.
Green label (most common)
Grey label( not as common)

Genuine Intermotor? intermotor are just an aftermarket manufacturer of electrical stuff, and in all honesty, not the best, cheap yes, best, deffo not.

ah, now how dizzy do I feel? Yes, I do have points in the dizzy and my old coil had a green Bosch label, I think I have found the correct one - it should be this one my thinks...

Are you fitting the correct electronic dizzy? no point fitting the "correct" electronic coil to a points dizzy.. I doubt the points dizzy is the original electronic thats been "converted" to points as that would be far too much effort for most people.. more likely a beetle dizzy.. or quite poss an 009 which doesnt have a vacuum advance unit on it.. and generally have pee poor advance curves and dont work very well and likely has been set to the wrong timing too..

As far as I know all water cooled T3's have electronic ignition (so if yours has points, someone has been messing about) (stands by to be corrected)

OK Aircooled = one type (unknown designation to me (us) at this time)

Water cooled flat fours, Green or Grey Label. (Grey sticker ones having a higher secondary coil resistance measurement of 6.9 to 8.5 K Ohms according to my Haynes)

What systems should have what coil, Green or Grey ?
Perhaps one is for Digifant ?

According to my sources for the wbx with electronic ignition (ie not DF or EW) vw actually used three different coils
211 905 115D is green and 191 905 115A is grey according to my info, not sure about the earlier 115B version
211 905 115B upto June 84 build date
211 905 115D subsequently for all engines including both digijet and digifant 2.1s
except between Aug 87 and July 89 on syncros, and on 2wd from Aug 87 to end of production, on all wbx except Digifant they used 191 905 115A which I think is a golf number, the golf petrol engines used the same coil as us it seems generally.
wether this was for cost or for spark power I don't know, or wether the spark size matters for leaded/unleaded ?

So I wonder what happens if you swap a Green one For a Grey one ?

Mine has a non standard one on at present (and has had since I got it) - I am fitting new HT leads today and intend to fit a spare (known good) VW 115A coil (Grey) - will report back as to if it works OK, or if the world ends.

Report =

Took non standard coil off and fitted a Bosch 115A (grey sticker) on.
Fitted new HT leads, German OE spec from Europarts @ £18
The single point WR7DC+ plugs (for use with LPG and therefore gapped at 64thou, btw = the thickness of a Stanley knife blade ! ) were only 1 month old.

Result = Much smoother throttle response when flooring it
