over heating
I had a prob with overheating on the way up from forest of dean to cheshire last weekend and before I set off for home I opened the header tank top and looked at the water which did seem to be over filled and I emptied it a little and the top seemed to be loose when I undid it so I made sure I tightened when I put it back on and drove home with no heating probs! Today I've been for a drive and have overheating issues again! I had a new thermostat put it last month! Any ideas?

the water in the header tank should be filled to the brim.(im assuming you dont mean the one behind the number plate flap)so cant be over filled.you could have a dodgy sender...

Thanks Rob! One more thing the guage is nearly at max and I had to put the heater on full blast to try and keep the heat down but while it was very hot I stopped and openned the expansion tank behind the number plate and the water was cold? Also would it not help by removing the thermostat in the short term?

the water in this tank will be cold as the system sucks this up should it need it.is your rad fan kicking in...

the switch (screwed into the rad) should kick in once a certain temp has been achieved.if its not kicking in you need to test it.
to test it.just take off the wires to it and touch them together.if the fan comes on.then chances are it is the switch that is faulty.and yes it could be a fuse but im not sure which one it is..

I concur with patten thermostats not always working properly, I had this on another car.
