I'm not a Holdsworth person but I have seen campers where you physically switch the 12v supply to the fridge once the engine is running rather than going through a relay - might be that? Obviously, not to be used unless the engine is running.

i would say, and i know nothing about holdworthy thingys, that that switches the fridge on. :rofl
its common for the signal for the fridge relay to have a switch in on fridges with no 12v on/off switch, like the older smaller fridges, or the 12v would be working every and all the time the engine is running.

Hi Italianjob

Hope this will be of use!....

The Holdsworth Villa 3 manual states this:

The refrigerator can be used in three ways:

A) Via the vehicle battery when in motion by putting the 3 position switch on the refrigerator to battery pic symbol with + – and then operating the switch on the dashboard tunnel(the one in your photo) marked 'fridge'

B) The gas supply when the vehicle is stationary and the ignition switched off, by putting the 3 position switch on the refrigerator to '0' and then following the instruction manual.

C) By mains if the 3 position switch on the refrigerator is put to pic symbol of plug and a caravan hook up or other mains supply is available.

The 12 volt supply is from the main vehicle battery circuits and not from the caravan battery or the zig unit. There is a 25 amp fuse on the refrigerator circuit which is located in the fuse box in the main vehicle battery compartment behind the drivers seat (unless you have a diesel).

I havent got one on mine (its a diesel - but cant see what difference that makes).

I also cant see the point of it - a split change and a switch on the fridge is enough IMHO....

However, i hope you have found your answer :D Villa 3's rock = apart from this switch!

evening all

thanks for the advice :ok

once I've got everything fitted back into position I shall give it go with 'the switch' whilst driving. I've always got the fridge down to artic temperatures via the mains hook up prior to setting off and then either plugging into the camp site lecky or using the leisure battery (when it worked  ) Didn't know about 'the switch' til I put it on the forum - cool (pun intended)

adios for now - see you on the road hopefully - which reminds me - I tend to do the vdub wave to other vans, but the success rate @ getting somesort of acknowledgment let alone a return wave is 50/50 - over the past 5 years  . whats your experience?
