Yet another fridge question... lol

Hi, and thanks to everybody who helped me with my fridge issues last time - but I've a new question now. After everybody's help my old electrolux was working great, and over the last two weeks, whilst on holiday in Devon, the fridge worked on all three power sources great until a couple of days ago. I'd turned the gas off over night, but when I turned it back on in the morning it wouldn't 'click', ie it wouldn't try to light. There was a 'hum' from the fridge though. 12 and 240 still work great...

Any ideas? Thanks!

Sounds like the igniter is playing up? You say you turned the gas off overnight? Were you running the fridge off the gas before you turned it off??

I leave my fridge working 24 hours a day in camp.
I have a carbon-monoxide alarm from Wilkinsons for about £20.
I also leave the skylight open and the front windows down a bit.
The alarm does work as if I use the burner long enough without ventilation it makes a noise that could wake the dead.

^^ Sound advice. Our new (replacement) Chubb CO alarm has a level display so you can see what the level is (or hopefully isn't)

Maybe I'll do that in future... if I can get it working again, I really wanted it done for next Saturday, the Tatton Park show etc... I'll have to take it out AGAIN... what should be my first thing to check?

Just bought a T25 and it's great but the fridge doesn't work even after a service. It is an electrolux 122 and I have been told that the current replacement is a 123 but I have to have a second vent hole punched into the side of the van. I am very reluctant to do this and I don't much like the price. Does anyone have a less brutal and cheaper solution?

the gas? (no flame?)
the electric? (element broke)
both?

Turn it upside down for the night, then try it

No you don't have to have another vent.. only the one for the flue.

Hi there, thanks for your reply.
There is a flame and it has been turned upside down. The Guy that serviced it said he thought it had a gas leak. It is 1981 and the only owner prior to me said he had never used the fridge!!

That would worry me....
It either has or hasn't got a leak and whoever "serviced" it really should have be able to say for definate; then advise you not to use it if it's leaking, or perhaps even fix it??

As eatcustard says, don't take risks with gas, have it checked over properly and made good, or removed & replaced. If you have a suspected gas leak, don't light anything. Is it bottled gas or a tank?

do you mean the gas in the fridge (coolant)..?
if thats gone then I would look for a replacement, yes.

as I said no extra vent needed.
but remember..
the more hot air you can vent out the cooler it gets

ahem! these fridges do not have coolant gas in them, its liquid.

bear in mind that fridges do not generate 'cold', but rather pump unwanted heat out of their insides to somewhere where it does not heat the fridge up once again.
