My 2L Aircooled won't tick over. There's no fuel getting to cylinders 1 & 2 at tickover.
I've pulled off the vacuum pipe from the tube between the left carb and the manifolds (the one that comes from the advance/retard unit on the distributor) and it starts to fire on 1 & 2 but only occasionally. I've checked the vacuum unit on the distributor and it works OK according to the test in the Haynes manual.
The leads and plugs are new and the sparks are good - the timing's OK.
Am I looking that correct pipe that takes the fuel from left card to right cylinders? - I think it's the one that leaves the left carb right opposite the idle shut-off valve, goes through a short flexible bit before becoming metal again and it's got the junction in the middle behind the air filter box that receives the vacuum tuble from the distributor?
Could there be a leak in the pipe from the left carb to the right manifold? - could that flexible bit be takin in air...? - could that tube be partly blocked?
Struggled with this for almost 2 day - run out of ideas.... anyone got an idea?

Re: Idle bypass problem - T25 2L Aircooled
possible hole in the diaphram on the carb check to see if fuel is flowing out of the main feed first then as you say seems to be running on one side and not the other ,get a squirty bottle with a spray on it like the cleaners etc start the van and just spray a little petrol into the carb see if it picks up plus if you look at the engine from the back look to the left han side there is a small solinide with a wire running to it thats the tickover solinide a lot of them are disconected as they give problems think theres a piece in the wicky ours is not conected due to a simalar prob as it shuts of fuel dont need it steve shaw will put you right give him a quick call at gas sure
if my vans a rocking dont worry fixing it again lol

Re: Idle bypass problem - T25 2L Aircooled
mine started to do this after the van had visited the garage and they'd re-attached the solenoid on the side of the left carb.
took it off again and the idle has returned

took it off again and the idle has returned

Re: Idle bypass problem - T25 2L Aircooled - worse and worse
This is gonna drive me to drink!!!
I bought an overhaul kit, took the carbs off, and installed new float valves, accelerator pump and automatic choke diaphragms and cleaned it all 'til you could eat your soup out of 'em - blew all the jets through with compressed air.
Checked the idle fuel feed pipe from the left carb to the manifolds is clean and made sure both fuel cut-off solonoid valves and the idle solonoid valve are working. I've renewed all the vacuum pipes and made sure they are routed properly. The only thing that isn't perfect is that the flat metal idle enrichment thingy between the two solonoid vales on the left carb hasn't got a wire on it's terminal - but it never has had.
Put the carbs back, adjusted the tickover and bingo - idling perfectly - rock steady for ten minutes. Then I gave it a rev and it went back to not firing on cylinders 1 & 2 at tickover. How can the b****r do this to me???!!! At tickover I assume both cylinders get their fuel down the same idle feed tube system? - so how can one side fire and the other not??!!! The sparks are all good. I'm beginning to believe the right hand cylinders are haunted!!
Any suggestions at all gratefully received - I'm on the verge of gettin a priest in...
