Diesel fuel consumption?

Post by Chrissyt »

What fuel consumption is likely with a diesel t25? I'm pretty bored of my DG's fuel consumption and may think about making the swap in the near future?

Also I have a small boat I tow my DG copes ok, but is the diesel up to it?

Regards

Chris

A good 1.6 TD in a 2WD can get maybe 35 mpg on some runs, realistically 30 mpg over a year's normal driving.

Then... my Syncro Doka 1.9TD is doing about 24 mpg, but a petrol 2.1 in that doing what it does would be below 20 I reckon (and diesel is not fully sorted yet, getting there though)

This will be your very worse case :)

TDI is the way to go for economy, makes the 1.6td and 1.9td look really bad for economy.

Would it not be better to go LPG?
As Diesel and petrol will keep going up in price and LPG is relatively stable?

My 2.1i get around 15-20 to the gallon at 50ppl (LPG) so thats anything from 30-40MPG in comparison.

Good mpg that. PM us with the figurework over the last thousand miles or so and we'll put them in the Wiki nothing in there yet on a 1.9 NA

Is it possible that some of you reporting could run a proper fuel inventory. Actual fuel into vehicle and mileage when it went in over a significant distance e.g. 1,000 + miles

then we can plot conusmptions a bit more reliably. thanks

100 miles of mixed motorway and A-road driving over the weekend, between Cardiff and the Forest of Dean via the M4 and A48, and my 1.9 N/A diesel (ex-Seat Ibiza motor with 60k on it) turned in 31mpg. I'll post more figures by way of an inventory as and when i remember to do them :)

Inventory can't have any gaps in it, pretty well makes everything before meaningless..

Best method is just ask for a VAT receipt with litres and keep every one. If it was a brim write the mileage reading on it, else not, keep them in date order, job. Oh start with a brim and mileage of course, else that'd be a false start with inderterminate fill-state.
Even if you go several fills without a brim, no matter, but eventually need a final brim and mileage to do it accurately..

If tank leaks when brimmed, use a known gauge reading as accurate as possible for the start and end states e.g. 3/4 mark. Using empty state fraught with problems of course and not recommended

Any single fill-to-fill figure can be +/- 20% as you can see between blue and yellow curves on chart above... so a 40 could be 48 or 32 !! At best 10%, 44 or 36 (still a big difference  )

If you can get to 1,000 miles or more like that, then figures will be well worth plotting out...
