Idle Stabalising unit blowing

Post by Rennie »

I have had a problem with my 1981 2.0ltr Aircooled petrol T25 relating to the Idle Stabalising unit. We replaced the unit but the second one has blown.
I have opend up one of the units but can't see any blown caps or resistors, i assume the fault must be on one of the chips. The unit must be getting faulty feed from somwhere !.
I have been told i can run without the ISU but i am concered that i may damage another expensive component.
Can sombody advise which part could be causing the ISU to blow.

I get the feeling you are not being as honest with us as you could be , tell me have there been any wiring modifications carried out on this vehicle which are obvious in the engine compartment /fuse box and around the steering column ?

IF there are I would be looking at them first to make sure no silly sod has 'chonked' some sort of imobiliser or Ignition up grade into the system...........

PS, 009 dizzy's and blue coils are a NO NO on these beasties and will cause umpteen issues other than the normal things that go wrong........

most folk take both plugs off the unit and plug them together. won't cause any problems elsewhere :ok
