T25 metal/squeeky noise

Post by Big Vern »

Hi,

My van (1.9 dg petrol, leisure drive high top conv) has developed this rather worrying intermitant noise and this starts has a squeak and gets much louder into a metal rub sound enhanced when slowing down,it appears to come from the offside rear wheel area i think and this was scary driving back from Barmouth on Thurs.

i have had my van into a garage 4 times now without success !!!! i have had the offside internal rear brake system cleaned, brake shoes and the drum checked, i have also had the bearing adjusted. on my last visit to the garage today the nearside rear coil spring broke. could this be related to the noise on the opposite side?

does anyone have any ideas of what i can check next when i get my van back? i appreciate all advice.

many thanks Big Vern.

Don't forget the rear drive shaft joints will not have been looked at for some time so a session of removing cleaning and re greasing is my suggestion of what to look at next..... :D

Regards

PS ,and use the proper graphite grease on each joint when re building.

a metal rub sound enhanced when slowing down,

You say slowing down, but not braking as such ?

If you can differentiate the two it would help...

Then, if it happens at low enough speed, final slowing (or braking) to stop, you might get a helper to run alongside and be able to tell if it is from the brake area or as Fritz says, perhaps the drive shaft(s) and determine which side..

PS. Was any servicing done just 'before' you first noticed the noise ?

Thanks HarryMann for your advice too.

The noise is intermitant with and without braking on slow down, no service done around this area.

regards.
