I have a 1989 left hooker 1.6 TD Vanagon with a faulty km speedo. The odometer numbers kept falling off the spindle. Anyway I bought some nice alloy dial covers in mphH. I now need to get a MPH Speedometer to match so the needle is accuarate as it can be in mph.
Some of the them are pricey on Ebay, but does anybody know if other speedos such as Golf from that era do the job.
Dear Alan, Have a close look at your speedo again and you will see a 3 didgit number near the bottom of the dial, this number relates to a specific speedo head to suit your vehicle to take into acount the gearbox ratios and the tyre sizes fitted to your van when it was built .
So fitting an alternative speedo head from another vehicle such as a Golf would be no use as this would also have to be calibrated to suit your needs.
The simplest fix is to find a good second hand one with the same number as the one on yours........
