Engine wiring, sensors and switches??

Post by blue67 »

I have a 1.6 CS diesel van, which i am having starting problems, at first i thought it to be the glow plugs, checked these with a multimeter, all are getinng voltage. Next i noticed a couple of "loose" wires and the distinct lack of wire to the oil pressure switch on top of the filter housing!

The loose wires are blue/white and red/yellow. I recon the blue/white one goes to the temp sensor in the end of the head, (the black/greay wire from this controls the oil prssure light so i gues it goes to the oil pressure switch?) not sure at all what the red/yellow one does any ideas?

When i connect the oil light wire to the oil switch the light doent come on when the ign is on but illuminates when i start the engine! is the switch buggered?

How can i further test the glow plugs are working properly?

the switch in the water pipe from the head has a red wire coming from it, is this the temp guage sender?

Loads of questions i know, i am sure there will be more but any heads up or clues on the above would be muchly appreiciated! Thanx Guys

Glow plugs can be checked with a simlpe test lamp (you know the type which will illuminate when put across a battery).

Remove the BUZZ bar linking the tops of the plugs and simply clip the lead to the Poss on the battery and then simply touch the tips of each plug. If the test lamp lights up, the plugs are OK, if they don't then they are goosed.
