Re: Clutch Quicky Please RESOLVED no its NOT
Sorted now thanks. Bit of a strange one as at times I "lost" the clutch pedal on the upward stroke. Then I spotted a small puddle of fluid on the drive, aha must be master cylinder. Bought and fitted a new one (GSF £36 local Factors £86
..) and now all is well. Looking at the old one there are no signs of leaks but the seals had turned to jelly! I have inspected the hydraulic line and no leaks anywhere, odd but there you go and all seems well now. Next job please. Changing gearbox oil now and it has just started to pi$$ down AGAIN but that wont stop me, its got to be done eh.

Oh dear oh dear. Come on VW doctors. Every now and then I depress clutch pedal and it stays down with the clutch dissengaged, slowly rises again and is OK for another 20miles or so. I fitted a service kit to the slave a year ago and have just replaced (because of wrong diagnosis) the master cylinder. All bled nicely so it is not air and I just hope it is nothing wrong with the clutch itself which was a new kit fitted when I did the engine swap 3 or 4 months ago. Methinks slave but what do you reckon ?

The force that propels the pedal back to it's original position is the pressure plate

If you want to isolate the problem (While the fault is on of course) you need to lay under the vehicle and get someone to push the clutch down so you can watch or feel the actuating rod as the pedal is released. Were it the thrust race catching on the pressure plate fingers the actuating rod would slacken. If the problem is in the hydralics or pedal mechanism then the rod will remain under compressive force. Strange symptom though!

Re: Clutch Quicky Please RESOLVED Oh no its NOT Oh yes it is
Fixed now. I never could get it to do this "loss of pedal" thing and therefor could not catch it doing things it shouldn,t. Anyway sitting at a roundabout with first gear selected and boot on the clutch AWAY she went so therefor the service kit I fitted a year or so ago has gave up, but mind you it was well worth a fiver. New slave this time as it is a strange feeling when she wants to go just like that. Still can,t really get my head around why sometimes I lost the pedal although clutch was disengaged and then it creeps off by itself with the pedal down, usually it is one or the other.

Re: Clutch Quicky Please RESOLVED Oh no its NOT Oh yes it is
Just to close this thread.
I fitted a new slave and problem solved. I pushed the piston into the cylinder and it stuck halfway in. I took the old one to bits, like ya do, and the usually pollished bore was badly pitted and I think because of this the seal was trying to "turn over" and jamming in the cylinder. I thought that the clutch diaphragm would have been enough to overcome this but not the case. Lovely now
Thanks all for your imput. What next I ask myself.
