Electrickery type stuff and gas Warning girlie question

Post by Valsowners »

Hi all

I have a leisure drive conversion and am in the process of putting a better battery in (a 110ah to be precise)

I think everything at the moment is in its original leisuredrive state. I have the old battery and water container in one compartment under the rear seat, with the gas bottle in a compartment next door ( with a drop off floor vent) seperated by a thin wooden panel.

To create space for the battery I've moved the panel slightly, but I was wondering if it would be ok safety wise to remove it completely??? This would give more breathing space and allow me to store a spare gas bottle in the locker.

So really all I need to know is - is it safe to have the gas, water and battery (fitted with quick release clips) and the same locker box.

One other question (whilst i'm here I may as well!) I'm going to fit a cigar lighter socket which requires an earth. I take it this just means attaching the wire to the bodywork? Would it be ok to attach the wire to the same point that the leisure battery is earthed too?

Sorry if these questions seem simple, I really don't like electrics and just want to make sure I get it right!!

Thanks in advance

Sarah :ok

Electrickery and gas don't mix. You could go for years without a hitch but you don't want to increase the risks. As for cigarette socket, yes you could use same point as battery earth if its convenient but any part of the metal body should be earth.

I'm sure you can imagine the wall is there to stop any escaping gas from the bottle, surrounding the battery.
Which in the highly unlikely event of it sparking would set off any combustible gas present.
So I'd leave it.

the rest is ok
