hi eveyone any help will be great ive got a 1990 1.9 watercooled engine and on wednesday i got to work and there was hot water pouring from the higher of the two water tanks (one with the hose attached) out of the switch, so i left it for the day and when i had finshed i had a better look and the top tank had some water in but i couldnt see any in the bottom one, so i top them both up (just water) and went to leave work and the temp light came on after about 8-10 seconds of driving so i stopped then decided to go to the garage just down the road (light came on again after same amount of time second time) where i brought it from told him what i'd done he said just keep an eye on temp gauge it may have got wet and not working properly. so i left and got home with no problems, but after every trip i make now water is coming out.
anyone got any idea's i'm planning a few trip is the next few weeks and would like this sorted out i am going for a lpg conversion at gasure on wednesday to.
Time for a new pressure cap ?
Has the tank got a crack in it, I read somewhere about them going around the sensor I think?
Sorry a bit vague, but have a search it might yield the info you need
If it's constantly overflowing then you need to have the cooling system sniff tested for products of combustion as you may have a gasket leak or a cracked cylinder
constantly overflowing when engine is running? from the second i turn it on, i'll check and have a look for cracks in the tank anythin else i should check thanks for your help guys!
just lets be clear here,
the tank behind the numberplate flap is known as the top up tank,
the tank you have to remove the engine lid to get to, is called the header tank.
the header tank has the sender and pressure cap....
when the coolant get hot and up to pressure, it should release it via the pressure cap into the top up bottle, and when it cools down after you have stopped it sucks it back from the top up tank.....
if your header tank is cracked, or the sender fitting is cracked, the pressure is realised out of there, instead of out of the pressure cap into the top up tank....

jk and gsf sell them I think, but to be honest I wouldn't go to either for this part because the aftermarket ones have a habit of not lasting for very long. Better off asking in the wanted section on here for a genuine vw one (and mention which engine you've got), I bet one of the breakers will have one.
Sorry to hear that you're still having problems with your waterworks.

Looking for: window apertures for side windows, at the back of the van
T25; 1985; RHD; 1.9DG petrol / LPG; white Autosleeper high-top; Looking rusty again!
still available new from VW, I had an aftermarket one (GSF) was crap to fit cos of the moulding ridges on the spigots and then started leaking at the middle join after 12 months so got a vw one, which comes with a new cap too. The sender and seal were also still available and I've several preloved ones on the shelf (senders that is)
possibly a stupid question, but if buying stuff from vw.... what website do you use??
forget the internet for once...
Go to your nearest VW Commercial vehicle dealer.
or find them in the phone book.
order your part there, give them a part No. if you have one.
If you don't have one then ask for it on here or in the shop
