DIY Bay window 4x4's

Post by B.J »

Hello all,
I'm new to the forum so be gentle :D
I seem to remember somebody talking about DIY Bay window 4x4's (could of been a fellow from syncronutz?)
Has anyone from here seen anything like that or know of any links etc?
What would be the implications of fitting syncro running gear into a bay? (seems that everything has been shoe horned into a bay at sometime).
BTW I've seen the april 1st post and the Subaru post

Thanks

j

Well the very first Syncro was a Bay and can be seen in the VW museum. Anything can be done if you throw enough work and money at it so if you fancy doing a total redesign of the front end of the Bay .............

Keep us posted :ok

That's the sort of stuff I'm after. Is the first pic the proto syncro from the vw museum?
And do you have a link or anymore info for these two vehicles.

Ta.

The first is the Museum piece.
The DIY was at VanFest 2003. Never seen it before or since.
http://www.vanfest.org/2003_modeng.asp
'The modified engines display saw various permutations on the theme of late engines in early vehicles, but surely the most outrageous was a mid mounted V8 powering a 4 wheel drive bay pickup itself made from a cut down kombi. This vehicle was completed into a drivable condition just hours before being coming to VANFEST and as such still had some rough edges, but the amount of work to make this Bay Window "Monster Truck" was awesome, it would be fun to see it off road one day'.

Somebody else may remember it.
