1.9 DG with a 4 speed box 1988 , I was going to change my gear oil tomorrow , I loosened both the drain plug and the oil filler/ checking plug to make sure they were free did the drain plug back up and took out the filler plug , oil came out about 100ml and it looked very clean golden colour .
So questions , I thought the checking filling plug just behind the linkage was just that , so why did oil come out ( van was level both ways ) , was it over filled before ?
As it appeared to look clean do I need to change it ? and what level should the oil be ? Haynes says level with the filler ......
cheers for the answers

Re: gearbox oil question
you're right there level with the filler is right, the gearbox oil will be predominantly golden due to the fact there are no carbon deposits like engine oil but........
its still worth changing the oil.
With the little dribble of oil that came out it may have been slightly overfilled but the good thing is it hasn't dropped so you have no leaks
