Help with lumpy engine please....picture

Post by thelonegunman »

Hi people:
I noticed my engine -exhaust vibrating a lot and so i took off a spark plug lead and the engine noise did not change. With the other leads off it cut out.
Here is a picture of the oily plug and could you tell me why it is oily please ?
Thanks:

Replace the lead for a known good one and try again. (I always keep a set of known-good used plugs, cap, arm & leads in The Bus.)

Hi.
I now think that the van is firing on only two cylinders as i took both of the left hand leads off and the van sounded the same.
I think these leads are quite new ?

As Ian says, replace the leads on the suspect cylinders with some other ones, even temporary cheap ones from Partco or similar.

But in addition I would put a new set of plugs in along with a new dizzy cap.

Run it for a day or so and see what happens.

If it re-occurs after changing the above, it may be a symptom of something more serious, but we will cross that bridge if it arises !

any way...
it might be an air leak..
try carb cleaner around the manifold gasket and the braided vacuum pipe that comes off the manifold to the brake servo

Me again.
Thanks everyone but could you tell me where the servo vacuum hose is ?
Is it that braided hose on the right hand side low down ?
Thanks again.

Is this it ?
This was hanging off of the manifold and went to a black box that was joined to the air filter.
