All of this points to my mantra;

If it's on half on the fuel gauge, top it up...

Learned the hard way :lol:
What a long strange trip it's been

Yeah, prior to the dash rewire (and as AngeloEVS said, upset the voltages), red was reserve and I could virtually run down to the very bottom of that on guage. Clearly I can't now and venturing into the red means "You're pushing your luck mate - you won't even make it to the garage in time you idiot". That would add up as the rewire ensured a much better connection to everything in the dash including the small regulator. Prior to the rewire the guage could vary widly till it settled down but is now much less fluctuating and evidently more accurate...

Well to be fair, I did ring once I got home (no joy) but couldn't leave Ant sat there in the soaking wet. I'd reached the lights at the end of Allard Way where they meet Binley Rd? Had to leave bus in pub opposite fire station. We took a short cut through the housing estate of doom to get back. Guage is definately different since I rewired though so will be carrying a can till I adjust to it.

Van in now in workshop at back so i can gut interior. What you up to Rob? Got access to full woodworking facilities at mo so of you want to add to that interior of yours.....

Hi all, Only had our California 1 week and nearly found out the hard way about the fuel gauge. The chap I bought it off told me that the gauge would change a lot as you drove about, so I have been keeping my eye on it. Whilst travelling back from Malvern back to Brum on a quick trip to enjoy the van, I joked to the wife that the gauge was reading empty whilst going up hill. She replied it will be fine on the down bit. However it wasn't and was stuck very much on red. This all after just passing a petrol station. I knew another was coming up but not sure how far. Its amazing how coasting can improve fuel econemy :P Managed to make the station and filled her to the top.
