Rear spring snapped

Post by Cruz »

Driving to work this morning and as I was overtaking a slow moving tractor I heard a bang. Got to work and had a shufty and didn't see anything. Driving home with the window down I heard a loud rattling every time I went over a decent sized bump or badly fitted manhole cover. It then dawned on me that the spring had snapped and the rattling was the lose part of the spring rattling on the trailing arm boss. Thankfully I can get a lift to work tomorrow then I have a week off due to my shift change, unfortunate thing is these things never happen when your really flush

So the question I now ask is where is the best source for standard springs? Looked at JK and they were £77 each for a "Rear Coil Spring Not Syncro, Heavy Duty"

GSF are £57.50 each. What's the quality like? I've heard some bad things about some GSF parts recently

Also is it an easy dooable DIY job to change the springs?

*ahem*
Infact, I just sold the last set of new ones, their replacements should be winging their way from the fatherland as we speak.
Have a look at the others to get a idea of price.
I will say that mine are proper tapered wire miniblocks and not parallel would "Lesjefors" items from GSF which are too large in diameter and touch the bodywork, plus they are a one size fits all, and the a*** of your van will be stuck up in the air like a 70's Cortina with furry dice...

Tbh Brickwerks was the first place I looked but I couldn't find any listed for reasons now obvious. I'm sorted for a lift to work for the foreseeable future. Not driving the van now I know the spring has snapped, so I'll wait for you to get some in Simon. Don't mind paying for Brickwerks stuff that I know is quality gear.

Jaylo, follow your nose? Do you mean the wiki (already seen it)? Is that method safe?

Surely there are many folk on here who have taken off their standards to lower their vans? best option to fit good used standards? that way you can get away with just fitting the one.

Yup, guess it is , but I used strong cord to keep the springs compressed a little , not much, dodgy tho, use compressors if not good with knots !

Just been tidying webshop, too many parts in each category now so I've split them up into standard and performance to help you find stuff.
been bugging me for a while so I've sat and done it tonight.
I'll ring and check were the new springs are and how far away they are.
