New Windscreen T25
I have had a crack appear on my windscreen. It is now about 8 inches long. There is no sign of a stone or something larger hitting it (no chips etc) just a deep crack that is getting longer (it was about 4 inches when I first noticed it). It starts at the bottom left hand corner (near side) and is travelling upwards. Has anyone else had this happen?
My insurance excess is £75 (which I think is a bit steep) . Has anyone any idea what a new windscreen for my T25 would cost if I just went ahead and got it replaced (without involving the insurace company). The thing is I am about to get a total body respay and the windcreen will be coming out for that anyway when they fit new rubber seals and do any rust spots. I don't really want to have a new screen fitted now before the respay only to have it yanked out again. Also do you think there may be a danger the swindscreen could shatter if I leave it much longer.
Thanks Sandringham

You could be pulled by the Police and done for driving a defective vehicle.

It will not affect your no claims bonus, so go through the insurance co.

Just had mine replaced, £75 excess. There was a choice of 3 types, plain, some sort of green tint and one with a blue tint that was the most expensive......all 3 cost £75 excess that did not impact on my no claims so got the blue one and looks great. Apparently the screen that was cracked was the original screen from 20+ years ago. The seal was still fine so wasn't replaced. Did get to see two big rusty bits down the bottom edge (same place both) sides that flaked away.....heart in mouth moment. Screen now leaks in these two places, but not sure what I can do about that except get it re-welded/new panel?

Dano,
I've spent close to six hundred pounds recently doing exactly this.

Donor (not new) windscreen, new seal, new screen lower panel after seeing how rusty old one when seal was removed, and not even painted.
A complete feck up of a job. I had to pull the van from one garage as the bloke turn out to be a tozzer. So drove vehicle a mile up road to another place minus headlamps, front panel, wiper mechanism taped down, dash removed, loose steering and very badly cracked screen with various bits & pieces flying all over the place....hang on..... here's a not very good picture.
New garage put it right for £240 including fitting windscreen I supplied. Hmmm! But what else could I do??? AND it leaks worse than ever for feck sake Plus found an extra dent in driver door and one retaining hook from glove compartment broken.
So beware of Peter from Hextable, Kent. He's the ultimate fxckwit.
Just call me lucky

Re: New Windscreen T25
Hi Mate, i was a windscreen fitter and manager and area manager for autoglass among other windscreen companies.
If you are having the screen out to have the van painted, kick it out yourself. Use a flat screw driver to peel the seal back in the top right or left corner and with your size ten boot on it push away till it pops out.
Then when its painted and hardened off ring windscreen companies in your area and ask them if they will waive the excess, some do, especially smaller ones. Tell them it was a top tint screen, that way you get the built in sun shade.
If it leaks after that it is their responsibility to sort it !!
Jobs agood un.

Cheers maxstu.....looks like it'll be some white duct tape and some sikaflex

Re: New Windscreen T25
Good idea
Should save yourself about £595.01
But as Lucifer says, if replacing knock old one out. They're fairly durable so give a good kicking and get someone wearing gloves to catch it
Good luck

Whoops! Sorry Sandringham. I hijacked your original posting.
As mentioned earlier it could be classed as dangerous by an over enthusiastic copper
.
I did mine due to imminent MOT. Beforehand I drove around for best part of six months with a huge crack in my screen covering some 4k in miles.
Not condoning you drive around with cracked one, but windscreens' are pretty tough items. If it were me I would wait and have new fitted after respray.
