Front brake problems

Post by Davy MacLean »

Just been away in the van this weekend and noticed an issue with the front drivers side brake

On Friday noticed a wee bit of smoke coming from it put it down to the van being parked up for a couple of weeks and just sticking.

However wheel feels hot and sometimes you hear a squeaking noise and a lot of judder even when the brake isn't applied this comes and goes and sometimes you have to pump the brake pedal to get some resistance as the pedal will just go straight to the floor.

Been advised when getting a tyre change on Friday night it could be the calliper sticking/not operating any ideas?

Typical never had a problem before and just when I want to sell the van

Sounds very much like caliper piston sticking. I had both front replaced with reconditioned ones having suffered the same symptoms. Not sure if theres a kit available, someone might know. Paid about £60-00 each....tried freeng the one but to no avail! Didn't lose brake pressure though but knacked the disc and ended up having to replace them as well!

Sounds like you are experiencing Vapour lock (the brake fluid boiling because of the excessive heat being generated) due to a seizing brake caliper.
