Installing extra gauges

Post by mike the van »

 Having problems wiring up some extra gauges on my 2.0 l aircold,
Oil pressure , have got 5 bar VDO sender and a VDO Porsche 5 bar gauge, gauge and sender installed, connect up the gauge to +ve supply of the ignition, the ground and the gauge and , whether the engine is running or not the needle flips straight to 5 bars , no reading in between, same with an oil temp gauge even thought the sender isn't attached yet.

Where am I going wrong??

Cheers mike

mate they will they go full scale when sender not in circuit, liven up gauge with sender wire connected to sender and earth sender, this should brig needle down then by placing live on and off of gauge needle should just kick up a bit. :ok job done, weather the sender will work with the gauge is another matter as can be a complete headache matching them.

this symptom with vdo and porsche gauges means sender wire open circuit. hope this helps.

Problem solved, not sure why assumed G meant ground, swapped the connections around the sender to G and the earth to T and positive to +v, 5 bar pressure gauge from a Porsche works fine, interesting to watch the pressure change as you drive. Now all I have to do is fit the oil temp sender !
