Big End Gone, New Engine Needed

Post by Miketaboo »

Hi,

I'm new to this site and not very good mechanically.
The big end went on my T25 2.1 DJ last saturday, could anyone suggest the options open to me, it's currently sitting in my local garage (a VW/Audi specialist) who are looking for an engine. I'd like to have at least the same power as before, but i've got no idea how much it will all cost.
I seem to have two options for a recon engine the Vege Watercooled Engine 2.1cc DJ or the TES TYPE 25 TRANSPORTER 2.2 BIG BORE. Has anyone had any experience with these? Any opinions well help me alot.

Cheers
Mike

I can only speak from my experience, but I bought a Remtec 2.1 recon just over 2 years ago and it's been absolutely spot on. I think they're sold through VW Heritage now.

Budget for a new exhaust as the old one will probably not be keen to come off your current engine, and whilst you're in there you might as well do the clutch.

My engine cost around £1300 I think, but it was a while back (just google remtec vw), a clutch is about £100. Brickwerks are doing some very nice stainless exhausts at the moment.

So all in all not a cheap fix, but at least once it's in you should be good for a few more years
What a long strange trip it's been
