Rotor arms

Post by android »

I've just replaced the rotary arm on my van with a bog standard jobbie without a limiting thingy bob. the one with a limiting thingy was 4times more expencive than a standard one so i decided to save a few pennies and not rev the poo outa the van(which i avoid anyways). will this cause me any problems in the long run or is it ok not to have a limited rotor arm?
excuse my technical wording as im no mechanic and not sure on the technical names of things stuff and bobs:O)xxx

you just won't know your over revving with out a rev counter.

never take mine over 5000 rpm now With my limitless arm (rev counter fitted)

however I doubt that you'll cane it for long periods.
In 4th at 70mph is 3700 rpm

thanks for the reply :)i feel reasured now as my mechanics skills are a bit limited like my old rotor arm! i never go beyond the orange lines on my speedo so i guess this limits the rev's down a bit too and keeps the engine within its parameters. a rev counter would be nice but i'd rather spend the money on camping and waggle dance :D thanks again!

Except if you are absent-minded, have the stereo on way too loud and can't hear the engine. You can over-rev it then. Done it myself...

You'd be daft to rev a WBX or CU that far as all the power has long gone by 5400rpm.

got a little question to ask about over revving , I have a limited rotar arm and quite often I will drop it into 3rd on a steep hill and take it up to 70 .... am I likely to do it damage ? 1.9DG 4 speed box

No - rotor arm will kick in if you overdo it. Had that happen now and again - bit embarrasing though :D

70.......in 3rd!!! I have never done 70 in 4th.
60 to 65 is my limit in 4th. About 50 in 3rd.

Aaaaahhh!!! That'll explain my loss of ignition when I missed a gear while being cut up by a "idiot" in a cavalier who wouldn't let me past and was insisting driving at 50 except whenever I started to overtake  . Most embarrassing, I got past but coasted to a halt only to be passed by inanely grinning said 'gentleman'. I thought I'd completely buggered engine but it started back up straight away.
:ok
