Sticky throttle cable...

Post by passatman »

Just a quickie....the throttle cable is sticking on my 1.6TD, it just won't return.

I take it the sleeve has some foreign body in it, causing it to jam up......i have a replacement cable, but is it easy enough to change?

:)

The cable frays inside the sleeve.
I can't remember if I dropped the tank or not when i did mine.
Sorry, I'm not much help.
I do remember it wasn't a hard job at all sorting the cable out.

It is an easy job to replace it.

I used a length of cable bought off a roll from a local custom motorcycle shop and used the brass bit from the inside of those electrical connectors known as "chokkie blocks" for the ends , but since then I have been told that the genuine article is cheap and easy to obtain from the likes of GSF and JK (and maybe even VW van centres, they are often overlooked for simple spares) though I reckon Simon at Brickwerks might be the first and best port of call. Well, i had a go today.

I got under and checked where the stuff was, and started to take it apart. No problems, the sleeve was really brittle and broke, but i used what i had.

Anyways, i've fitted it all, but i can't get enough length on the pedal end?

I'm not sure i've taken the correct route after the tank, i didn't take much notice where it ran beforehand, but it seems like the straightest route.

Have i got a duff cable, or am i rubbish?

Aidan....is that a fiver posted?
