Mot faliure

Just a word fo warning ,I have a pop top camper.
Racing Harness for the kids were in last mot Mot failure
clear side lights and flasher Mot failure
Wheel bearings front fitted by the mot garage last year Braided front hoses fitted by the mot garage last year Mot failure

rear spring cracked spring ? will check this week

when fitting new parts

Take it for a test somewhere else if you can afford it..
What was reason for racing harness failing?
Side lamps with flashers 'should' be ok as long as they flash yellow and you can still see white side lamps ok at same time
Wheel bearing...is it noisey or has it got play?
Braided hoses, would have to look in regs for that one but wouldn't they would be a problem.
Cracked/broken spring, well that's a fail.

I'm confused, why exactly did it fail on these points? the brocken spring is the only clear failure, what was said about the rest?

Seat belts No british standard marking stautary seat belt of wrong type. (fitted over 12 monthes ago fitted at last mot)
dual function lamp fitted direcrtion indiator adversely affected by the another lamp.(fitted over 12 monthes ago fitted at last mot)
o/s f wheel bearing has excessive play (fitted by garage after last mot when new discs where fitted)
brake hose has insufficent room to move resulting in fouling on any part(fitted by garage after last mot when new discs where fitted)
n/s f feels rough when rotated(fitted by garage after last mot when new discs where fitted)
exhaust emmssons carbon monoide content exessive. (same as last year checked last mot)

The Garage owner said " don't change the side lamps I will pass them with them in"

The seatbelts are from SABELT with e/E which are to european standard. which are good for the FIA .but take them out for the mot and they will pass with out them.

Correct, take seat belts (the rear ones if its a camper..) out and refit when you got a pass. As for the rest, get your wheel bearing adjusted and the other side changed. Get somebody to set your emmissons up and you should be about there.

All jobs done,changed a seized caliper too. Mot booked for Thursday next week.When I can can stay and watch

Some of the aftermarket flexi hoses are too short and pull as you turn the steering. The JK ones don't and I can't imagine Brickwerks ones doing it either.

Took ours to the local Council MOT depot - clear indicators and side lights not a problem. Methinks you've been had over.

Reading through this thread, I think that the garage in question is more interested in taking customers for a ride by the sounds of it. For future reference only take you van to an MOT station who only does MOT tests and nothing else.

And remember, an MOT is only saying the vehicle was up to the required standard at the time of the test
You should always regularly check your vehicle throughout the coming year.
I remember replacing the pads on a Ferd Certina a while ago. They were worn down to the metal. She said "That can't be right, it still has 6 months MOT left". (The car had actually done over 30k miles since test

Like I said many times before - taking your MOT at a garage that does the work is like leaving your keys in your vehicle outside the flicks! Use the concil depot or make it quite clear you you have a tame mechanic.
