clutch (hopefully fixed for good)

the van has always had about 1" lift before the clutch starts to come in but just recently it has been right at the bottom as soon as you take it off the stop..does this mean there is a problem or has it adjusted itself ?...ive no problems in selecting gears

What mileage has the clutch done?

check levels

mine bites near the top (brand new with new slave cylinder)

mines about one inch from the top to like kev says check levels and i dont think the clutches are self adjusting?

not sure of the mileage kev but had it out about 3 to 4 months ago when i did the engine swap and it looked in good condition and ive only done around a thousand miles since...the fluid levels are ok i think..last time i looked it was at the max ....its strange its working too well as opposed to the clutch being right at the top which normally indicates wear

You say it looked in good nick (against a new one?) but was the pressure plate/thrust bearing in good nick?

check the system for air and all the slave linkages


personaly...If the engine is out and the clutch age is unknown... I would have changed it (60 odd quid at GSF)

proberbly would have been the sensible thing to do but i didnt know how the engine was at the time so wanted to just get it all in to makes sure everything was ok first,its worked fine up untill recently...still...the clutch is working fine,no slipping it has about the right bite length its just its in the wrong place..too close to the deck..ill have another check of everything when i get chance..cheers

yeah, I've been there too, but I had a mate reigning me in, like a little bloke on me shoulder... poof, he would appear, and say "are you rushing?"

gonna take it out for a run to my sisters later,she has a new house in derbyshire she wants us to look at ..i think ill make the excuse of checking it out on the drive when we get there so i dont have to be told that ..this is the bathroom...this is the kitchen...this is the garden ..

oh..and hopefully we will break down before we get there

hmmm...after a drive out today it still is near the bottom,if you were sat with it in 1st and brakes off it would start to pull right as you took your weight off the pedal but it doesnt try and move with it on the floor ,checked the fluid and its still up at the max but its working fine,might be air in there as you say which would proberbly move the action of the clutch to a lower biting point..something to check when its not pessin it down ....clutch is fully on when just over half way up..think ill just leave it till it tells me whats wrong

Odd one that Dave as I would have thought that a worn clutch would give the opposite and bite at the top, diaphragm would have to move further to "nip" the plate. The problem surely must be that something is wrong when the pedal goes down causing the up bit to be wrong, if that makes any sense. Hope its just a bit of air but for the price I would start with a new slave seal kit which would not always leak fluid but could pull in air. Hope you sort it mate and not too expensive. Nice house was it ?

we had to take our shoes off and the dog had to stay in the garden
on the plus side my mum wanted to go into mcarthur glenn to buy some shoes but i stopped in the camper watching a film and drinking coffee

the more i think about it (and it takes me ages to think about stuff)..the more i think its just fluid problems that are not letting me disengage the clutch fully...but im off work next week from wednesday and ill get to the root of it

Ayup matey,
Before writing anything off give the clutch a quick bleed....see if it makes any difference. Top up the resevoir, get a bleed bottle at the rear and bleed until there are no bubbles coming out.
