I have a 2.1 Syncro Transporter with the digital clock in the middle. It's clearly visable and works fine when the ignition is off. Turn on the ignition and it disapears, same for when the engine is running. Turn engine off and remove the key and back it comes. For info I recently had to change the AVR for the fuel and temp gauges because they both packed in.
The clock did not work at all before changing the AVR then after fitting the new one (from local VW Dealer!) worked fine (including when the ignition was on/engine running). I thought I had cracked it but then the above started happening. I have noticed also there is a very faint glimmer of a clock sometimes when the ignition is on. I'm stumped!
I don't see how the AVR has anything to do with it as according the wiring diagram in my Bently manual it should not effect it. Just a coincidence or ????. Does the clock have it's own internal AVR?
Would love to crack this one! - Help

Re: Digital Clock
Does the clock keep time while the engine is running? Do your guages read normaly?
It sounds to me like a bad earth or feed to the Clock, probably on the pcb.
Switching on the guages swamps a poor connection

Re: Digital Clock
Hi
Thanks for that, I'll check if it keeps time. Gauges read OK. The PCB is broken around the area for oil pressure warning. Could be that the ground is through there?
I'll check.
