After market central locking & alarms

hey Guys,

I have been looking into putting central locking into my Westy but have found it hard to find an original VW set up. Its only the two front doors that we are really worried about, just to make life a little easier. I have seen that some people have used aftermarket kits from ebay etc. I have been looking at these kits but I am not sure which one to buy, they all seem to be the 'best' etc. Could anyone that has put such a kit in their van tell me what they used, or has anyone ideas or recommendations?

At the same time I would like to put an alarm on the van, again does anyone have a recommendation? Something that alarms when the central locking locks would be good?

Ideas and thoughts welcome

I put a generic set with a remote locking fob in mine and have had no problems.
I paid about 30 yoyos for it but can't remember the name.

I will have a look in my cellar and see if I still have the box.

nice to know someone else has used something and it still works. having been into VWs for a while I am well aware that some, if not a lot of stuff can be made really badly As the van is a keeper we just want to do the job once and have done with it

now the alarm...any ideas?

Mine is a WASP alarm and it seems to work well. Depends what you want to protect - that should dictate your options. Still think the best method is disabling battery. Even an alarm won't stop a smashed window but at least you should be able to stop anyone driving it away. A lockable battery box with a cut-off inside would be a good route - that an alarm that picks up unauthorised movement inside.

The central locking, I too have a cheap kit and it works great but they're all fiddly to connect to door pull mechanisms.

I just want the alarm to sound if someone smashes a window an alarm that is amred when the doors are locked would be great. But one that can be de-armed when we sleep in side

To stop someone nicking it I was thinking of a fuel cut off solinioed that is tiggered by the alarm? Lets face if someone wants to nick something they will. Its more about keeping the ideas at bay

The WASP one will do that although like most 'shock' alarms is sensitive to passing rumbling diesels - case of setting it up right. An interior sensor would still work though. After all, if a window is smashed, its smashed but at least the alarm will go off if someone goes further. The other type which covers the car and a certain distance around it (designed for open-tops) is another option but might upset pedestrians. Mine shouts at intruders that 'interfere' ie by kicking it and tells them to bugger off. If they still persist it gets pretty annoyed them and starts making a right din.
