It's come home! New Pics+need some advice on seals & badges

Post by italianjob »

Afternoon all

After a long slog of stripping out, welding and spraying - shes come home!!! Now all I need to do is re-fit the interior and make a few mods and we're all set for catching some rays. So here a 2 pics for starters. Taking a look a look at the pics makes me realise just how faded she had become - I suppose you just get used to that kinda look. But it was a true Westwood 'Pimp my Ride' effort from me when we picked her up yesterday with plenty of gesturing and 'I don't believe it man' with a few 'cooooooool's chucked in for good measure. Villa 3 stripes down the sides are now gone as well the bleedin awful landrover 'defender' sticker some numbn**ts decided to stick to the tailgate.

Now for some advice please:
1. Transporter and volkwagen emblem for the back - where do I get new ones from?? Trawled through JustKampers and all they seems to do is the clips for the emblems but not the actual emblems.

2. Door seals - the bloke at the spray shop removed the cab door seals and took the doors off - should the seals have been re-fitted whilst the doors were off 'cause I can't see how they go back in without cutting them to deal with the door hinges. Also - I forgot to take a picture of how they were seated in the doors - any pictures available so I don't stuff it up?

Any advice greatfully recieved - should be up and running soon so see you around (most prob New Forest, Forest of Dean , Snowdon - the usual places).

Have a good one

Hows it going? :ok

I checked out the wiki page about doors seals - do I have you use the self adhesive tape or is it optional?? If I get new seals they should pop straight in shouldn't they - or am I missing something here??

Another question whilst I'm here - anybody know where I can get some thin foam for backing the door lining to the cab door cards please? I've sourced where to get the lining material, but I need to get hold of the thin foam to pad it out like the originals.

Great looking camper... good to see you kept the Holdsworth logo to the front of the pop top!...Worn with pride.
Are you refitting the Villa 3 interior?

afternoon all

thanks for advice :) - I will check out using the foam underlay idea as this seems to be the easiest to get hold of. I don't think its flame retardent though? :?: But if the van's on fire I don't plan on sticking around.

Yep, she's still a Villa 3 minus the decals running down both sides but I can live with that - I'd rather see the bright orange. the intention is to re-fit the original interior with a few minor mods - I've disconnected the water tank as we don't really bush camp and I didn't facncy luggin 80 litres around sloshing all the way. Will keep the sink unit but drain it into a 'grey' water container.

I took loads of photos whilst extracting the units, so fingers crossed for the re-fit. I'll keep you filled in with devlopments.

ta for now :ok
