1.6 Diesel non-starter

Post by biffnKell »

Help needed, (was) going to Bug Jam this weekend, and now got starting prob! :(
Bus (82 1.6 diesel) started fine this morning, did oil and filter change (recent recon engine fitted), went to start it after, turned over really slowly then blew main (25a) fuse.
Noticed 2 blue/white wires coming out of main harness (next to glow plug relay), 1 not connected to anything? ,the 2nd blue/white wire going into G/Plug relay was connected.
Not turning over and no clicking of solinoid, just blowing fuses.
Any ideas, only a couple o days to go!
Thanks

Try to check all the basics first such as battery terminals (if they are loose /dirty, clean them up and re secure them) after that check all main earth connections as these can also suffer from poor connections which will give you similar symptoms.
Then finally have the battery tested, any garage (not petrol station) will do this for you.

silly question but you haven't over filled it with oil have you? sounds like it could be the engine locked up. unless the starter is buggered :?

Thanks guys,

Fritz. . . spot on, thanks, battery prob??
But why was it blowing fuses?

Still got the spare wire though? Put a tester on it and it's live,
Taped it off to stop it earthing and everything is running and working ok.

Will run it this weekend and see what happens!

Thanks again.

The only other wire around there i thought was the fuel cut off solenoid on the injector pump - got a photo? But it wouldnt run without that connected.
Could be the oil pressure or the temp sender come to think of it....
