Summat's not right?

Post by Nicola&Tony »

Van has been running nicely for a while (runs on lpg 99% of the time), but that's changed over the last week. Nothing major (at the moment) but it doesn't feel or sound how it usually does. It idles ok and sounds ok when I rev the engine in neutral, but when driving around and accelerating there's not as much power as usual (sluggish) and the engine sounds louder (like when an exhaust is starting to "blow" because of a small hole, but I can't see one). Only seem to get the symptoms when accelerating, but not when I ease off to cruise along.

I've had the spark plugs out today (they were changed last Dec.), cleaned them and checked the gap on each. Took the cap off the dizzy as well. It was dusty in there so I wiped it out, but all the contacts are clean and shiny (fitted new in January). Had a look at the air filter as well. Doing this hasn't made any difference to the symptoms so I'm wondering if it's a fuel problem? Carb? If so, what could I try (I know nowt about carburettors)?

Grateful for any suggestions and ideas.

Cheers

Tony

Agree with above ... perhaps time for a set of plugs & leads, when did you last change the air filter ?

Thanks for the ideas. :ok

Leads were new Feb 2008
Plugs were changed at Duke of York, Dec. 2008
Air filter was new Dec. 2007

I think I have spares at hand for all of these. I checked the resistance of the leads tonight and got 5.7 / 5.8 / 5.87 / 5.89. The lead from the coil was 1.89 ohms though, does that make any of them suspect?
