hi all,since l put my 1y in (1.6d - 1y con) it's had 2 bad knocking noise's,1 comes from the engine area more bottom end than top, the
other is a mystery it is def coming from the bell housing sounds like a knock on every rpm of the flywheel any suggestion's much appreciated..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Jxsm3WPhDU

Sounds like pump is too far advanced, or internal pressure of the pump is too high.

I changed the head on my aaz and it sounded awful - massive knocking noises.

It was the timing out by a notch.

Recheck your timing dude...

how about...and its just an idea...the oil pump fowling on the big end thing
the word 'pissing' is safe

after a few more listens..its defo to me the bottom end i can hear it,so if its towards the rear then perhaps you shouldnt rule it out...unless you checked it cleared the oil pump before you put the sump back on...oh...what a very shiny diesel engine you have there :ok

cheers all for your suggestion's trouble is all of them sound feasable,l have some new big end bearing shells knocking about so may as well fit them and while l'm there have a look to see if the oil pump pickup is catching,l will retime it but can only do a partial 1 ie:lock cam,lineup pressure plate notch and re'aline pump pully, to do it properly do l need the pump diagnostic dial,cheers again lads.
