New starter battery

Post by gardnerw »

Hello,

I am in need of a new starter battery and can't decide between, trojan, optima or odyssey - does anyone have any suggestions / recommendations?

Many Thanks!

syncrosimon and I read extensively on the subject of specialist batteries and we came to the conclusion that you are better off with a good quality (Exide or Bosch etc) standard battery.

The only real benefit to gel batteries is being able to invert them, which was not in our plan! They are also exceedingly expensive for no benefit as a starter battery. Be careful of what some magazines have said on the subject as some of it appears to be 'featured articles' rather than reporting from empirical data...

Personally, I am going to do as syncrosimon has done and put Exide's in for the starter and leisure batteries (leisure batteries are a similar story). About £50 each from our local farmers' merchant. Get one you can top up with water (esp. the 'leisure' battery) and install the vent hoses.

Thanks for that SyncroSwede, the prospect of spending £50 instead of £150 is much more inviting https://club8090.co.uk/forum/posting.php ... =2&t=54256#" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Could i just ask what rating you were considering?
