diesel water (new pump) & oil leak & red light..

Post by Therunner »

my bestest friend was driving home in her 1.6d the other week when the water pump seal went & she dumped her load, luckily she was on a road where she could stop straight away,

garage fitted new pump & all was fine for 6 miles, then today after a further 6 miles the temp went right up & the red light
came on, she pulled over & let it cool down, managed to crawl to her destination but on the way back the light came on again &
she had to stop. apparantly there was a bubbling noise from the back (boiling water?)

when i got there, there was water in the main tank (no oil in it) but the top up tank was empty,

there was a very tiny under the min amount of oil in her (most of it was up the tailgate & over the alternator/batt ect, no puddle under neath) & the dipstick wasn't quite all the way in, don't know if that was her after she last checked it & if it was, can oil shoot out the dipstick tube under pressure? there is a bit of an oil leak anyway, but only the odd spot, nothing major! if it wasn't her that left the distick not quite in then how the hell did it pop up? :|

started her up, she smoked a bit & the alternator belt now covered in oil was squeeling & could've done with being a fair bit tighter,.
she got recovered home..

anyway, what to tell the garage, she has no money to pay them for any more work & when it went in there all it needed was a water pump, everything else was alright so any ideas what might be wrong? could it be anything they did or didn't do? (they supposedly bled the system..)
or is it all her bloody fault?

sorry for the long one, so hard to shorten & simplify..

many thanks

KAte

could be that they didnt bleed it properly, could be that the thermostat went with the overheating. i would consider phoning the garage, at the least they should come and take a look free of charge ( push for it and confirm it first) even if its only to say its no their fault, but you never know. which garage did you use one in bognor or chichester??

oi oi, a localy type who knows where we are!

it was a garage in chi, thing is, when she had an Aircooled van we borrowed
it for a bit & my partner discovered a petrol leak, it was dripping down onto the heat exchanger, potentially hazardous,
we couldn't find where it was coming from though so she took it there, it was there ages & they couldn't find it, they did however,
fix an oil leak  after much insisting that there WAS a petrol leak they eventually found it, so we don't like these guys but
they do have some experience with vws & they're pretty close to her.. :run

First job would be to bleed it properly and then take it from there.
