Brand New Engine for T25 1990 1.9 petrol (not re-con)

Post by swillicott »

Hi,

I have had a massive failure of my engine which means a hefty £1000 billl to get it fixed. I am considering getting a new engine instead but wonder if anyone know where I can get a brand new (not recon) engine for a 1.9 T25 1990 water cooled van? Most of the ones I have found so far are re-con engines which I am not really after.

Any ideas? and does anyone know how much?

Thanks

Hi,

What was the problem ? What sort of engine failure are you talking about ? Maybe you can fix it yourself ??

I had a similar problem with my bus, blew head gaskets....was so gutted you know, end of the world and all that. Garage quoted a fortune to get it fixed ( 2,500 for recon engine and new clutch, labour )

Anyway, I had a go at fixing it myself, got the engine out, stripped it down, replaced all the bits and bobs and the exhaust for about 500.00 all in...took me 3 months to get it all done..

Vans being MOT'd today...

Cheers, Richard

vw have run out i think they dont even have recon any more

any way i think a vw engine new was about £2200
add to this all the new parts you would probably need if you were doing the job properly clutch , thermostat housing , thermostat , water pump , antifreeze , plugs , airfilter , oil and filter , exhaust and possibly carb and dizzy

and thats quite a bit of money plus fitting if you wanted a gararge to do it!

If your keeping the van and have a reasonable budget or are handy at turning a spanner and wiring then go SUBARU. you all know that it make sense. relaible, cheap to buy, better performance and better fuel econmony. Go on. :ok

You are not going to get a "new engine" I am afraid... even from VW they were "rebuilt" (but there is rebuilt and rebuilt  ) VW stopped doing the wbx 2years ago..... a fresh "VW approved" rebuilt engine is available from a german source... but isnt cheap....

At the mo... your best bet is Elite.. seem to have a good rep and several on here have had engines from them... I have not had an engine from then though..

I could build you a virtually all new engine, but the price is scary...... PM if you really want to know more..

Just spoke to him today and he is very helpful

His engines are really rated and very good. Plus they are cheapish. He has just qouted a recon 2ltr Aircooled for 700 quid. It hasnt got new heads but all the valves and guides and main bearing, camshalft, big ends been replaced so quite a good deal really

Cheers
