Hi
Just thought I'd share a recent experience in the hope it may be helpful for those with petrol engines
I had a pre MoT emissions test kindly done by fullsunian, who I met via the forum, as I thought my lumpy tickover was caused by a mixture problem
He felt sure there was an air leak and sprayed a little carb cleaner around the suspect areas and, sure enough, the engine picked up
Numbers 3 and 4 weren't contributing much at tickover so it seemed to point to that side of things and as soon as I got home I searched the forum for "air leak" and found a couple of threads where a similar problem had been caused by a porous vacuum hose from the manifold to the first servo none return valve
I ran the engine up and sprayed carb cleaner on the hose with an instant result, so replaced it with a new bit and everything was great. Smooth tick over, better pick up from the engine (which wasn't that bad in the first place!) and, for the MoT, hydrocarbons which were bang on - just wish I'd got my backside into gear sooner!
So a big thanks to fullsunian and hope someone else finds it usefull
Mr B

Lumpy Tick Over and High Hydrocarbons - Air Leak
Well, I really wasn't expecting that to be; bodged, broken, leaking, lost, missing, mangled, rusty, rotten, stripped, siezed - pass the Stella and it'll all be better
