Thermostat. Which way round?

Post by leakey »

Hi

I Need to refit my thermostat, but didnt make a note of which way round it was in the housing before it came out. So I have refitted it with the arrow on the stat pointing towards the inlet pipe from the water pump. When I tried to bleed the system the temp gauge was going past the halfway mark but the rad was still cold,as was the top hose at the top of the thermostat housing that goes to the rad. Is this right or have I fitted the thermostat the wrong way round, its a new VW one so it shold be working ok.
The engine is a dg 1.9 with the plastic thermostat housing at the back left.

Many Thanks

Neil

By the sound of things you haven't given the motor long enough to warm up for the stat to open fully......

Fritz,,,,,,

Make sure you are running the engine fast enough to push the water round the system once it does open....
