Small Water Pump

Hi,
Can anyone tell me the purpose of the Small Water Pump in the engine compartment, it is on the Bulk Head to the right of the engine when viewing from the rear of the T3, it has pipes that run to the Oil Filter Housing and the Main Inlet/Outlet to the Cylinder Head. Also is this Pump suposed to run when the engine is turned off after a run????????.

Its the auxillary coolent pump for the oil cooler.There is a switch senser on the coolent outlet where the cylinder head & Block is this will turn on the pump after the engine is switched off.Td engines run hot heat is dispersed away from the oil cooler by the pump.
