Recommended Improvements 2L Aircooled
Hopefully there are some out there that can help!
I have a nicish running bone stock 2L which does not leak oil. however it suffers from issues with the twin carbs, coming out of balance resulting in horrendous flat spots, smelly heat exchangers
whilst i enjoy driving our Viking i would like to have a vehicle that is more economical than 16-19 mpg and will drive up steep hills without having to resort to 2nd and sometimes 1st. I have no need for heat exchangers etc
does any one have any recommendations. I have looked at "wiki" and whilst it gioves links to performance sites i just want to know what works for the usual bod who runs this engine without having to spend a shed load of hard earnt "wonga"
many thanks
Andy

I replaced my stock carbs with Weber 40's. I'm well happy with them. lots more poke getting up hills etc.
Have a word with Irishkeet (sp). he replaced his heat exchangers with a custom built stainless system.

Re: Recommended Improvements 2L Aircooled
mine was better after fitting thge dells, due to the increased volumetric efficiency of the motor, and they sound awesome too

To be honest, I've never bothered to work out the difference. I assume it it better though.
I got my carbs second hand off VZI, and jets etc from Eurocarb. Someone else fitted them for me, as it's early days for me re mechanics

These engines will always be juicy but i agree that if it is well tuned and you run dellorto 36 or 40 carbs but you must get the venturi size right for fuel efficiency and torque as opposed to top end rpm- i.e. what u need for as heavy van. U could also try weber ICT 34's , they sre good csarbs but simpler and not as nice as the dels. I ran this set up with 36 dell. If you post on here or v zi u will get someone with the same engine set up in a van who can advise on the right size venturis and jets.

Possibly what he said .
All I can say is.. If you're within the M25. Head for Southern carbs. No rolling road, but people who have an idea what they're on about.
