Hey guys! I have just bought a van... its an 81 year , originally came with a JX diesel engine.. I have a few questions which follow.
Whats the difference between T3 and T25? are they the same thing?
All are vans fron 79-92 called vanagon? or is vanagon a spec level?
I believe JX is a TD engine, will my vehicle has a 5 speeds transmission?
I want to paint it red, the red which came in Vanagons, would some one have the color code?
What else do I need to know about my car? Its in junk yard condition, I have to restore it!
what hav i bought

yes, they are. the t25 is not to be confused with the type 25, which is an Aircooled vw car.

vanagon is a spec level.

may be so.

there's a load of codes over at brick-yard.

Hi and welcome...
There is lots of info in the WIKI that will help you...
Please can you fill out your location in your profile so that we know where in the country (World) you might be....
But... 81 vans did not come with a JX TD... (IIRC this was introduced in 85/86)
Could be 4 or 5 speed... and in fact there really isnt a difference in 4 or 5 speed, whats inside the box is the important bit... this can be determined from the code stamped on the box...
A T3 is the european designation as its the 3rd generation of the transporter ( Officially VW still call it a Type 2 though) The UK call it a T25 as generally the chassis numbers start 25...... as do many of the parts..... (T25/type25 is the same thing... there is no VW car T25... a Type 3 is a VW Aircooled car...)
A "Vanagon" is what VW called it in the USA... "Vanagon" comes from VAN and WAGON... as they were doing a bit of "reinvention" of the brand and model in the US... Vanagons come in several trim levels and can be a bus or a camper... they never imported it as a "commercial" (ie van or pickups etc)
