split oil cooler?

split oil cooler?

Noticed my van running a bit warmer than normal,so checked the water to find oil in it?.Have droped the engine oil, all looks nornal ,oil filter is also ok,no sign of water in oil.The engine is a 1y diesel 1.9.Has enybody heard of the ali oil coolers spliting,dumping the oil into the water cooling system.Or am i looking at the head gasket job(hope not).

cheers andysimpson, ive took the oil cooler off,cant seem to find a leak on it ,im goin to fit new oil cooler and see how it goes

any body know the usual symptoms for head gasket trouble

Head gasket symtons can be misfiring, pressure in cooling system fluids mix up either way. You won't be able to see anything wrong with a leaking oil cooler.

eyup duck.....if you look back at some of my old threads,ive asked this before....one member said he pressure tested his oil cooler and it leaked.....did it with a compressor and some liquid of some kind....cant quite remember tho......

My DJ oil cooler was always leaking and it turned out that one of the inlet/outlet spigots was cracked round the brazing ... these are something to check if you have a leak somewhere.

have fitted new oil cooler from gsf,flushed out the coolent system using a little washing up liquid to disolve the oil
after four flushes the water is now clear
took the van out for a run all seems well,and the van seems to be running cooler than ever :)
