any recomended mechanics in Cornwall?

Post by gymfitange »

Hello all - I'm new to the forum :)

I have a T25 home conversion with a 1.9td engine froma 1996 pug 405 - she has had this engine in for over 2 years and runs quite nicely but I'm having some problems with the bit/plate that connects the flywheel to the gear box (still has the VW gb)

There is a horrible grinding, spinning noise especially in low gears - it sounds like when you don't put your foot on the clutch properly - I have had a few garages look at her and have spent a fortune having the clutch release bearing done as I was told this was what it was - wasn't that as she still does it, every garage seems to have a different opinion and says change this, change that but none of them actualy seem to have a clue  as I still have a van making horible noises :(

It was my ex boyfriend who put the engine in (with much trouble I have to say) and he who has told me this is what the noise is - however I can't expect him to try & fix it a year after we broke up lol - hence I really need to find a reliable & honest mechanic who could do some work for me or else my poor girl is going to end up scrapped as I can't afford to spend any more money changing things that don't need changing by garages that just don't have a clue what they are dealing with. She may not be the shinyest or best kept T25 on the road but I do love her & really don't want to part with her so if anyone can point me in the direction of a mechanic who could help I would be eternally gratefull :D

I live in Cornwall near to Newquay but would be happy to travel to get her sorted.

Huge thanks in advance for any help & for a super helpfull forum

Ange,
try Shaggy at Newquay Dubstop (he is Newquay Dubstop actually!!!- 07811002952) He is a Splitty / beetle man and usually doesn't do T25s but can be persuaded. He is honest, quick, quality and very cheap. VW Live in Wadebridge also do T25s but although top quality, they are pricey and slow in my limited experience with the splitty. Just got new premises just past white acres caravan park on the the way to the A30.

The adapter plate that fits the VW gearbox to the pug engine may be the problem. There are some badly engineered plates made as to cause misalignment.

Yep I defo think this is the problem as I recon I must have had everything else it may possibly have been changed! This is the problem - finding a mechanic who understands this & knows how to sort it out :? I guess I'll have to have another adapter plate made up???

Ange,
there is a guy who works on the same industrial estate who is more of a T25 guy. Don't know what he is like as it was only something I was talking about with Shaggy as my T25 Syncro Clutch is on the way out. If Shaggy recommends him he should be ok. Failing that there is CJ at syncrospares at Cullompton (100 miles away!) who is top notch and knows syncros and T25s inside out. Don't want to even think about you in at watergate as I have been at work all day and feel very sulky about it. Got in at Fistral at the weekend but it was emmet soup.
