Timing
Hi
How does the timing go out then? I have had a couple of back fires recently and took the van out the other day and it felt like the handbrake was on. I have recenly had a carb refrub from Gasure so I wouldnt have thought it would be the carbs. I had the timing done about 6 months ago
Cheers

Re: Timing
Er, generally it doesnt... but back firing doesnt mean timing is wrong (but it could be...) air leaks.... on manifolds, pipes come off, crud blocking jets... I would go round and check nothing loose/missing/split first... did it start doing it as soon as the carbs were refitted?? or a while later....

Re: Timing
Whats the rest of the exhaust like??? could be air leaks on that, it causes "popping" in overrun... Tail pipe makes quite a difference to engine too... all about resonant lengths...

Yes I have got popping on overrun but i cant find any holes in the exhuasts apart from the fact that the cover for one of the heat exchangers has completly rotten away and I am left with the radiator type heat sinks showing. But as I understand it the exhuast runs through the heat exchangers so this isnt a blow.

Re: Timing
Yep, check the bolts/nuts are nipped (manifolds to heads and carbs to manifolds) up and there are no pipes split/adrift etc...

Just be aware that you don't spray too much and not on a red hot engine either - it burns quite nicely

It is by will alone that I set my 'van' in motion!
