gudgeon pin removal 1.9 w/c

hi does anyone have any suggestions what to use for gudgeon pin removal on a watercooled 1.9
been using a rawlbolt does work but a bit fiddly any suggestions?

The VW tool does the job and works in a similar way... but the problem is the lenght of the rawl bolt... + the "clips" chaffe on the piston and burr the groove, this makes for a right old job when trying to draw them out... suport the piston well as you dont want to damage them and alos dot want to bend a rod....

thanks fo that . dont wanna buy the correct tool as on a budget.out of interest how much is correct tool?

I always found that one of my toolbox sockets on an extended bar took them out with a couple of taps :D

Just put some rag around so you don't damage the piston.

I used an M8 threaded rod with assorted washers,nuts and a small steel bar with a 10mm hole in it to gently brace against the casing.

Simples :wink:

used rawlbolt to remove gudgeon pins worked ok trick not to insert too deeply and twist out rather than pull u get two pins out for one rawlbolt so buy a few 2 quid max for 4 :D

I also used a piece of threaded rod with washers, though it depended on which piston it was on to what i needed to do. For gudgeon pins that i couldnt hit with a socket the threaded bar was used.

put the bar through the gudeon pin and put a washer on the end you cant really see with a nut holding it on, on the other end put a big washer on held in place with a nut at each side. Then whack the washer held with two nuts using a hammer till the gudeon pins moves enough to remove the piston.
