my tuppeneth...
stick the 1Y in, and then if you fancy it, you can always throw a turbo on at a later date.. The 1Y is a great and bulletproof engine.. just change belt and tensioner, checking crank nose whilst you are doing it, and use a new stretch bolt from baxter.

Ah but did Pshconaut buy it as he didnt buy the spares or repair engine. That was unsold - I emailed the seller this morning to see if it was still up for grabs or not. Not all that bothered as its just more junk to keep but still you know how these things are. If I buy it I'll never need it if I dodnt I'll need it tomorrow.

Re: Is this a standard T25 engine?
I didn't buy it, no, although i was thinking about it.
Having had a good think about it all today, and having taken some excellent advice from many of you here in the last 24 hours, and from a few folks at the Uffungton meet a few weeks ago, i think i'm gonna go for the n/a 1900 diesel. It'll go straight in with no adaptions needed, and i wont need to change the box either. I'm not looking to dash about the place in it (i've got a "tweaked" Triumph for that
) but it'd be nice just to keep with the flow of traffic, and not drop to 3rd on the hills on the M4throuyh Newport
So, if you should see a tidy 1900 diesel about, you know who to call

Re: Is this a standard T25 engine?
just keep an eye on ebay greg the cars that have them in are...
seat ibiza
seat inca
vw golf
vw passat...i think
....not polo they are the aef engine and are a bit of a pain to do apparently
anyone else add to the list?
or just type in 1y diesel for ones on a pallet
oh and remember that mine was stamped with 1.9d and the one that peteabbott got was stamped with 1.9d/td...so there is variations of it and maybe the latter is turbo comptable then

The AEF has got the dipstick on the wrong side so it needs to be blocked up and re drilled.
Its is also fitted with a Lucas pump.
Don't think theres much difference apart from that.

Re: Is this a standard T25 engine?
I went out to change the glowplugs this morning, and immediately got to the root of the problem. Out came number 1 plug (the one closest to the front of the van) and where the bit at the end that glows should be there was...... nothing!! I'm guessing the remnants of it are embedded in the head, and this probably accounts for why, even taking into account it's a 1600, i've believed she's under-powered - it looks like she's been working on 3 for a while lol
So, Sam down at Celtic Soul (http://www.celticsoulvw.com/) has been rung, and the van is going down to his gaff for a 1900 diesel to be fitted, hopefully sometime later this week.
I'm suddenly vanless and i don't much like it!!

Re: Is this a standard T25 engine?
We also have the 1.6NA engine, which after a motorbike really does take some geting used to. We've considered upgrading and would love a scooby engine, but when I've spoken to people about how much this costs I just can't justify it (yet!!!)
Do you mind if I ask you roughly how much it will cost to get a 1.9 fitted, I'd love o be able to do it myself but I don't have the tools or the knowledge

If its not broken, tinker with it, then when you break it phone your dad. Work's well for me!
