Hi All

this may seem a silly question, but we've put a deposit on a camper, and were thinking about the things we'll need for a camping trip. Kettle obviously comes top of the list! Then I thought - are we better off with an electric one or one that goes on the hob? I was thinking hob, as we've got the gas rings and an LPG tank.

However, I've also realised I don't know how the electrics work - we're getting a 1988 westfalia camper - do they have an electric socket?? as I don't remember spotting one!

Get yourself a kettle with a nice whistle on the top...you can use that anywhere, as long as you got some gas

I only have gas so it is a bit academic for me. The only electricity I use are the internal lights and the cd/radio.
This means that I save on site fees and I am not tied to where I can camp. I can also always stop by the side of the road and have a brew.
You need to check to see if you have electricity before you go out and buy anything.

Kettle on hob is most versatile as electric can only be used if you have mains hookup.

Now I am the kettle queen and say you must have a whislte one that fits into the sink when you move about.

Do not forget the sink plug may become attached and stink your van out if put on the hob , I even carry a spare kettle just in case

Thanks for the advice all. Yes, I thought the hob one would be best. I'm just looking for one that isn't too huge, as some are 2 litres which seems a bit excessive. And, I will try to avoid cooking the sink plug! off to investigate on amazon now.

You'd be surprised - I bought a 1ltr off Amazon and wish I'd gone for a 2ltr as it's handy to boil up some washing up water whilst you're making a brew.

Check out Tesco, they're stocking camping kettles at the mo.

I have both, you can get small 800W electric kettles from camping/caravan shops but you can get 2.2Kw domestics quite small too. If I'm paying for electricity then I am goig to use it .......

Electric kettle only of use if you'r on a campsite with power . One for the hob much handier. Your westy electric socket may be european model, so you may need an adaptor to plug in anything, even if you have an external hook-up.
