prop probs

Post by justwill »

Right ive got a uj gone in my prop. can i remove the prop and still run it in 2wd or will it wind up the front diff and or V/C?

Going to use this opertunity to sort the front difflock as well. will it still be ok to use it if i take the drive shafts out of the front as well? Thinking i then can chuck diff on bench to make life easier and do the cv boots that are getting bad. I cant really take it off the road as its the only legal vechile ive got at the mo :?
I May be lost but im making dam good time!

I believe so, but think you have to leave ends of front drive-shafts in place.

How do you know when you've lost a uj?

running prop off is fine
sorting the difflock on the bench is easiest and doing the driveshafts at the same time is top tip, but if you want to keep the van on the road you'll need some outer cv's to fit to the hubs to keep the bearings tight. I've got one here, my others are on loan to someone else doing the same thing, no idea when I'll get them back.

sorted it. cheers for the replys. Ive just done the prop and chucked it back on :D managed to find a uj on a small shaft on a bit of scrap farm machinary that fits :ok recylcling and all that! so still no diff locks but still got 4wd :D
Now ive had a proper look round it i dont think its going to take long to drop the front end out. Its better than i thouight rot wise, 1 outrigger and 1 cab step needed so far, how much is it worth roughly, its NOT for sale before any one starts! More interested in if 1500 quid was a good buy?
