Coolant bleed valve

Hi,
Had a look on the wiki but cant find this at all.

I have a 1985 1.9dg camper. Whilst doing some work on it today I noticed that what i think is the coolant bleed valve block is broken.

Its situated in the middle back of the engine bay on the bulkhead & has 2 large water pipes into it from the sides & one smaller pipe that leads out at 90degrees towards what i think is the water pump. There is a knurled plastic knob on the main part with the 2 larger pipes which i think is the bleed. The problem is the bit with the small pipe - the plastic has cracked in that connection and the pipe is loose & will prob break soon.

I've checked jk, volksapres etc but cant find the part. Anyone know what it is or where i get one.

mine is a 1986 so it is a metal bleeding screw in a plastic termostat housing, it sounds like you may have the earlier thermostat housing.

Yeah, being an august 1985 van it seems mine is a bit of a mish mash when it comes to early and late parts. The bit i'm talking about tho doesnt look like its the thermostat housing as its just connected to pipes of the engine bulkhead. More like a t-piece sort of plumbing connection with the bleed in it.

the bleed screw on the early system in the engine bay is in the small rubber pipes comming off the top large rad pipe where it joins onto the carb bound metal pipe on the LHS front of the engine. Some are missing these days due to failure and non replacement, so you maynot even have one.

Mines blocked off with a luvly jubbly clip and a nail punch, done by a previous owner. Doesn't affect day to day running, but makes it a bit of problem to fill system

I have the 1984 watercooled 1.9 DG, I think this is the same as yours. It has the coolant bleed screw assembly, its plastic and mounted onto the front edge of the engine bay, with the fat coolant pipes going into both sides of it, and the knurled nut and a small tube coming out at right angles, toward the engine, with a rubber hose on it which goes into the top of the engine block.

I broke mine about a year ago, and searched high and low for a replacement... Not sure if JK have one but I did find one on busdepot.com, for $175, but I can't find it there anymore. Decided that was too expensive so I fixed it myself with a bit of diy soldering iron plastic melting trickery...

If the crack is on the small pipe you can probably just fill it with sealant and/or gaffer tape over it if you have to... Its not a hugely important part, as long as it doesn't leak.

Sorted it with a bodge. Filed the plastic v shape in the bracket below the knurled nit so the pipe will fit over enough to be clamped on securely. Seems to work a treat. Bonus!

Is this the replacement part from busdepot?

I can see where the four large hose connectors are - and the small connection at the side for the small diameter 'return' pipe - but there seem to be two more connections sticking out on top - wobviously want to order the right pipe - can anyone confirm this is ok for a 85 DG with the bleed valve as part of the plastic connector?

It's to replace the connector marked (9) in this picture - anyone else have problems with this part ( or anyone else have this early setup?)
