Leisure battery and 12v connection.

Post by Jutstar »

Probably a simple one but i hate electrics.....

If i use something from my faglighter when parked up would the power come from my normal battery or the lesisure. Also in my hightop there is a lead which has 12 volt power in it, it s like a normal connector................is it easy to wire something into it without doing myself a mischeif.

Cigarette lighter is generally off the vehicle battery. On mine, fuse No3 (counting left to right) which also does the radio and van internal lights (not the camper lighting). If someone retro-fitted it they could have taken the feed from just about anywhere.

What do you mean 'normal'? Safest thing is to trace it back and cherck it's correctly fused before whacking any load on it................or just keep pulling the camper leisure fuses until it goes dead.

To test the fag sockets - disconect the leisure battery by taking off the negative lead, preferably whilst wearing latex gloves, and then the positive lead - don't let the two touch! Then try the fag socket, if it works it's off the main battery! You could try the odd wire at the same time ti give yourself an indication of where that is coming from too.
